How moving to Thailand changed how I see branding

When I moved to Thailand, all I owned was a box of things and a suitcase of clothes. For years, I’d been chasing the title of Creative Director in agencies across Brisbane. One day, I woke up and realised I didn’t even know why, and what’s worse, I wasn’t sure I even cared. I know that sounds bad, but I realised my passion was never in job titles or pay grades. My passion was in people; in genuine connection, collaboration, and creating work that actually meant something to someone.

I am a big believer in getting uncomfortable in order to grow, and for too long I had been playing it safe...so feeling burnt out and desperate for a new perspective, I quit my job and moved to the Sunshine Coast. Not long after, I sold almost everything I owned and drove my little Barina back home to Broome, Western Australia.

But even eight months later, I still felt lost. So, I did what I always do when I need to grow; I threw myself further into the deep end. I booked a one-way trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand, to “find myself”–super cliché, I know.

After one month, something in me woke up again. Life was simple, and kindness, and human connection was abundant. I’ve never felt so grateful, or so present. After my first month, I extended to two months, then three, and next minute my DTV Visa was approved and I have been living in Thailand since 2024.

That sense of freedom, lightness, and simplicity changed everything; not just how I live life now, but how I design. Because when life slows down, you start to notice what really matters. And that’s exactly what great branding should do. Strip away the noise, and make room for what’s true, intentional, and built with the flexibility to grow as you do.

Freedom Creates Space for Growth

When you strip life back to its essentials, you start to see how much possibility sits in the space you’ve made. The same is true for branding.

When you create a brand with space; room to evolve, shift, and breathe, you’re not boxing yourself in. You’re giving your business the flexibility to grow with you. Your brand should move with you through seasons of change, not stay frozen in who you were when you started, or boxed in by a complicated design system and ridgid brand guidelines.

Why Simplicity Is Powerful

Simplicity doesn’t mean doing less, it means doing what matters most. Too often, brands overcomplicate things with trends, noise, complicated design systems and unnecessary details. But simple, intentional design creates longevity. It gives your visuals the breathing room to evolve as your business naturally expands.

When your foundation is clear, every new layer; whether it’s a product, campaign, or collaboration, can fit seamlessly into place.

A Holistic Approach to Branding

My process at Humid Studio is rooted in this philosophy. With over seven years of agency experience, I’ve worked across industries from property and trades to fashion, wellness, and corporate. That range has taught me one thing: every brand has potential waiting to be uncovered.

My background in photography, illustration, and integrated campaign design allows me to approach branding from multiple angles. I see not only what your brand is but what it can become.

This multi-disciplinary lens means every project is designed with possibility in mind. A visual identity that’s flexible, scalable, and built to grow with you.

Design That Moves With You

At Humid, I believe branding should feel calm, considered, and authentic, never forced or overdesigned.

Your brand is a living thing. It evolves with your vision, your audience, and your story. When built intentionally, it gives you the freedom to expand, without ever losing your essence.

That’s what I help you create: A brand that grows with you. Simple. Effortless. True.
